The title of our little magazine, and even more its subtitle "Schriften zur Musik als Kunst"
(Writings on music as art) seems to be a bit cumbersome, but for us it is precise and necessary.
Precise, because KunstMusik is meant to be a platform for a debate about a kind of music that claims
to be art. Whether it actually is, is another question. We, the editors, are not going to aswer it
Necessary, because a music with such a claim (in which way ever) distinguishes itself
from a kind of music without that claim. Our concern is only the first without belitteling the second.
This claim is made by the music itself and those who create it. They, the composers in a strict sense
of meaning as well as in a broader sense - sound artists, performes and visual artists who shape
something acoustic in a muscial manner - they are our authors.
We want to encourage them to use
this magazine to say what can be said about music in a better way than by means of this music.
For our authors KunstMusik is a book with many white pages ready for a written, in form and content
completely free discourse about music as an art. For our readers KunstMusik is meant to be a mirror:
at this place any thought about the state of art in music right now is reflected directly and without
a filter. It is not our intention to indicate more questions or to prompt topics: Anything that
just arises from this framework shall get the opportunity to get an audience.
We would be glad if
kunstMusik could be a staging area for things that are "in the air", and at the same time
a stimulus for watching out for them in the first place.
